Tons of Sobs is the debut Studio album by British rock band Free, released by Island Records on 14 March 1969. One of the first albums in the style of Blues-rock. The album hit the UK charts, but reached #197 in the Billboard Hot 200 in the United States.At the time of the recording of the album the band Free was very young: none of them are under the age of twenty, and bass player Andy Fraser was sixteen. They have had some success through constant touring, and their debut album was composed mostly of songs performed at concerts. The budget allocated for the recording of the album was only 800 pounds[2]. Much of the album was recorded over several days in October 1968. After the 1969 album a fusion of classical and rock for band and orchestra, John Lord was commissioned to write a sequel. It was the Gemini Suite, five long movements inspired by members of Deep Purple, and performed live in September 1970 at the Royal Festival Hall with the Light Music Society Orchestra (an album of the concert was released in 1993 as the Gemini Suite Live). Jon Lord then recorded it in the studio as his first solo project in 1971 with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Malcolm Arnold and soloists drawn from the rock world. Gemini Suite this was an important step for Lorde and led to albums such as Windows (1974) and Sarabande (1976).
