Tarkus is the second Studio album by British rock band Emerson, Lake & Palmer, released in 1971. Tarkus - fiction cyborg, the half Armadillo, half-tank depicted on the album cover. On the inner spread of the album contains a sequence of images of the struggle of Tarkus with other mechanical creatures, ending with the victory of the Manticore. The drive took 9-th place in the American Billboard 200 chart .

In the main and the most famous team was composed of Glenn Hughes, Mel galley and Dave Holland. Their first three albums remain their best known and most commercially successful.The third album "You Are the Music... We're Just the Band" was released in 1972.
