The album was recorded with the participation of the famous keyboardist Billy Preston and the American band The Impressions. Recording took place in London (the Town House and Olympic Studios), Los Angeles (Ocean Way) and new York (Right Track Recording). Reptile was a great commercial success (more than two and a half million copies were sold in total), was included in the list of the top ten albums in twenty countries and received positive reviews from critics.

They were founded in 1970 by classical multi-instrumentalist Peter Solly and jazz drummer Keith Webb, two members of Terry reed's band that was part of the opening act for The Rolling Stones on their 1969 American tour . Other band members were Derek Foley (guitar and vocals), formerly of Grisby Dyke; Lou Stonebridge (keyboards and vocals) of Glass Menagerie, who released five progressive rock and psychedelic rock singles, as well as lead singer Grisby Dyke; and Peter Beckett (bass guitar, vocals), who came from Liverpool-based Winston G and the Wicked, and later in the final incarnation of World of Oz .They played at venues across the UK, working to develop their sound by performing a mix of rock, Blues, soul, jazz and Latin music. The paladin's use of a double keyboard also created a unique sound. These performances were noticed by Bronze Records (who also recorded Uriah Heep and Manfred Mann). On January 8, 1971, paladin entered Olympic Studios in London to record his debut self-titled first album, produced by Filamore Lincoln. Reviews were good, but sales were disappointing. ...more
