The album was recorded at Little Mountain Sound Studios in Vancouver, Criterion Studios in Miami, Granny's House in Reno, Nevada, and Abbey Road Studios in London. Recording began in the fall of 1991 and ended in early 1992. Jon Lord then recorded it in the studio as his first solo project in 1971 with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Malcolm Arnold and soloists drawn from the rock world.
