At the time of formation of the second Deep Purple line in the group, there was a confrontation between art-rock ambitions of Lord John and the hard-rock of Ritchie Blackmore. The Lord considered the possibility of creating works which will combine the features of classical and rock music. Deep Purple Manager Tony Edwards decides to go for broke and reserves albert Hall on 24 September, leaving John Lord about six months to write the score.
