В 1975 году он дебютировал как автор-исполнитель под сценическим псевдонимом Пупо с песней «Ti scriverò» («Я напишу тебе»). Первый альбом Пупо Come sei bella («Ты такая красивая») вышел в 1977 году. Его второй альбом Gelato al cioccolato стал первым крупным успехом исполнителя.
