UK - British progressive rock band, a short-lived, but left a noticeable trace in the history of British progressive rock scene. The group was founded by vocalist and bassist John Wetton, drummer bill Bruford (both former members of King Crimson), keyboardist and violinist Eddie Jobson (later Roxy Music and the band of Frank Zappa) and guitarist Allan Holdsworth. Thanks to the participation of such famous musicians UK received the status of a supergroup. After recording the first album "U. K." left the band Bruford and Holsworth and took drummer Terry Bozzio (another native from the group of Frank Zappa). The cover artwork was painted by Rodney Matthews, the famous English Illustrator in fantasy style, created covers for works by many other artists (Scorpions, Thin Lizzy and others) the Title is borrowed from the novel by Alexander McArthur and Kingsley long's "No Mean City" (1935). With this album the band's sound became heavier, given the addition of guitarist Zal Cleminson of the Sensational Alex Harvey Band.
