The speech was recorded on 15 July 1985 at a jazz festival in Montreux ; July 17-18, 1986 at Austin Opera house; and July 19, 1986 at Dallas Starfest. Much of the album was re-recorded in the Studio.

The group was founded by vocalist and bassist John Wetton, drummer bill Bruford (both former members of King Crimson), keyboardist and violinist Eddie Jobson (later Roxy Music and the band of Frank Zappa) and guitarist Allan Holdsworth.
