Released June 4, 1996, A&M Records, the album was a commercial success, reaching a peak of number 1 in the UK and No. 2 in his native country Canada. It was recorded in different places, including Jamaica and France. After the album's release in June to promote the album, Adams toured around North America and Europe. Perhaps the most memorable of these concerts was the performance of over 70,000 people at Wembley stadium in July 1996. The album has sold over 3 million copies worldwide.

It consists of two parts, titled "Then & Now" . The first part consists of five songs from previously released albums, and the second part includes four new songs and "Voice of America", which inexplicably were added in Now . The album peaked only at number 114 on the Billboard 200 and was never put in the album chart in the UK .
