The record led the band to mainstream success in the US for the first time since Some Great Reward. The album has a less experimental sound, but Alan Wilder paid more attention to arrangements and samples when recording the album. You can also hear a lot of full-fledged guitar parts in the album's tracks. The sound and style on Music for the Masses is significantly different from previous works by Depeche Mode — the songs have a disturbing and melancholic sound. Music for the Masses led to a surge in the popularity of Depeche Mode in the US. (Code M-0093). It was commissioned by the Vladimir Vysotsky Foundation, but after the release of the first two albums, the Foundation ran out of money and refused to Finance it.
