FITZGERALD, ELLA-THE COLE PORTER SONG BOOK-1956-FIRST PRESS UK-HIS MASTER'S VOICE-CLP1083.A rare British original of the cult album. .Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Cole Porter Song Book is a 1956 studio album by American jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald accompanied by a studio orchestra conducted and arranged by Buddy Bregman, dedicated to the songs of Cole Porter. It was Fitzgerald's first album for the newly formed Verve Records (and the first album released by the label). Fitzgerald's time on the Verve label allowed her to release her most famous recordings at the peak of her vocal abilities. This album marked the beginning of a series of Fitzgerald songs, each of the eight albums in the series focuses on a different composer's canon, known as the Great American Songbook. The album was recorded on February 7-9 and March 27, 1956 in Hollywood, Los Angeles. Fitzgerald's manager and producer of many of her albums, Norman Granz, visited Cole Porter at the Waldorf-Astoria and played him the entire album. The British version covered a longer period, starting with the band's first A-side single in 1963, "Come On", and ending with several songs from 1966, including the recent hit "Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow?"
