"Walls And Bridges" was recorded during the long absences of Lennon and Yoko Ono. The song "Whatever Gets You thru the Night" was attended by Elton John. He made a bet with Lennon that the song would be able to take first place in the American hit parade (which was previously not possible for any one single solo Lennon). If this would have happened, Lennon was required to attend the Elton John concert. A very rare original of the cult blues rocker. Since the release of the previous album A Hard Road, there have been noticeable changes in the composition of the Bluesbreakers: Peter Green left to form his own band (Fleetwood Mac), and Ainsley Dunbar moved to Jeff Beck. John took Keef Hartley to the vacant drummer's place, and it was more difficult to replace the lead guitarist - after all, the new musician would have to bear comparison with both Clapton and Green. John remembered that at one of the concerts, when Eric for some reason did not show up on time, a young boy came who claimed to know the entire repertoire of Bluesbreakers.
