Communiqué was recorded in November-December 1978, at Compass Point Studios, Nassau and produced by Jerry Wexler and Barry Beckett. The album was the first to debut in the German charts at number 1 in the first week of sales (their debut album Dire Straits was still at number 3 in this country). In total, it has sold over 7 million copies worldwide. In Europe, 3,600 thousand copies were sold, and in the United States it reached gold status.

The debut solo studio album by English progressive rock singer Peter Gabriel and the first of four albums with the same name. Released on February 25, 1977, it was produced by Bob Ezrin. Gabriel and Ezrin gathered musicians, including guitarist Robert Fripp and his future King Crimson bandmate Tony Levin on bass. After the release of the album, Gabriel began touring with a group of seven people under his own name. The album reached # 7 in the UK and # 38 in the US.
