It was recorded over three weeks in November and December 1978 at ABBAPolar Studios in Stockholm, Sweden, and released by the Swan Song label on August 15, 1979. It was the last album released before the death of drummer John Bonham in 1980, which led the band to break up. The album was a huge commercial success, especially in the United States, where it reached No. 1 on the Billboard chart in just its second week on the chart. It reached number one in the UK, Canada and New Zealand, and reached the Top 10 or 15 in several other countries. Since the release of the previous album A Hard Road, there have been noticeable changes in the composition of the Bluesbreakers: Peter Green left to form his own band (Fleetwood Mac), and Ainsley Dunbar moved to Jeff Beck. John took Keef Hartley to the vacant drummer's place, and it was more difficult to replace the lead guitarist - after all, the new musician would have to bear comparison with both Clapton and Green.
