Released in October 1990, the album was less positively received than Vol. 1, but still had a fair success. In the United States, "She's My Baby" (with guest guitarist Gary Moore) and "Inside Out" became radio hits, charting 2nd album rock and 16th album rock respectively. The album peaked at number 14 in the UK and number 11 in the US, where it was certified platinum by the RIAA.

It was the first album entirely written and produced by the band members. Previously, they relied on the material of the songwriting team of Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman. The album was released by RCA Records in Europe and Australia and by Capitol Records in the United States, Canada and Japan. The album completed the band's transition to the hard rock style, which has always been the hallmark of their self-composed B-sides. Give Us a Wink reached 3rd place in Sweden, 9th in Germany and entered the Top 20 in Norway and Australia. The album failed to chart in Sweet's home country, the UK. The European album contains two singles, "Action" and "The Lies in Your Eyes", which were recorded and released before the rest of the album was released. "Action" hit the top 10 in 1975 in many European countries, but stopped at number 15 in the UK singles chart. The album was recorded at London's Olympic Studios with producer Glyn Jones and released in 1972. The album immediately became a success for the young band, taking 22nd place in the charts and becoming platinum. Three singles were released from the album, each of which hit the Top 40: "Take It Easy" (12th place), "Witchy Woman" (9th place) and "Peaceful Easy Feeling" (22nd place). The band, starting with this album, played an important role in popularizing the sound of country rock. The album was ranked 368th on Rolling Stone Magazine's 2012 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time and 207th on the 2020 reboot of the list.
