An ambitious project, originally conceived as a concept album about the loss of a fictional ship in 1899, it created tension and disagreement within the band over the direction of work; finally, a dispute over which song to release as a single led to Robin Gibb temporarily leaving the band.Released by Polydor Records in the UK and Atco Records in the US, Odessa was the band's fourth album to be released internationally, and their only double album of original music. The CD was released after the extraordinary success of Band on the Run and also became very popular. Paul McCartney's first album with Capitol Records. After the release of Band on the Run, Wings also included Jimmy McCulloch (lead guitarist) and Jeff Britton (drummer) in 1974. After McCartney wrote several new songs for the upcoming album, the band flew to New Orleans in January 1975 to record Venus and Mars.Britton, after an argument with McCulloch, left the band, having managed to participate in the recording of only three songs of the album.
