After the release of the album, critics wrote: There is a clear discrepancy between the absolutely explicit ambition of this disc and its relatively modest status in the discography of Santana. The reason, obviously, is that powerful swing not quite possible. We can say that this album is a continuation of the storyline begun in Love, Devotion, Surrender with John Maklaflin. Here we are again seeing the mighty spiritual message of the race in free jazz. Here partner is Santana Alice Coltrane, the widow of a famous jazz musician.
