Like the previous Grand Funk Railroad albums, it was recorded at the Cleveland Recording Company and is the last album produced by Terry Knight. The name is a play on the United States motto, E pluribus unum, and is Latin for "Out of many, Funk". The original exhaust cover (designed by Ernie Cefalu) was perfectly round and covered with a silver film that resembled a large coin.
