Despite the fact that it had only been three years since they released their last album Brand New Day, the band contained a new line-up with David Clayton-Thomas, the only remaining member from that period.

It was Fitzgerald's first album for the newly formed Verve Records (and the first album released by the label). Fitzgerald's time on the Verve label allowed her to release her most famous recordings at the peak of her vocal abilities. This album marked the beginning of a series of Fitzgerald songs, each of the eight albums in the series focuses on a different composer's canon, known as the Great American Songbook. The album was recorded on February 7-9 and March 27, 1956 in Hollywood, Los Angeles. Fitzgerald's manager and producer of many of her albums, Norman Granz, visited Cole Porter at the Waldorf-Astoria and played him the entire album. Out for Blood is the debut solo album by guitarist and vocalist Lita Ford, formerly of the band the Runaways. The original cover of this album showed Lita standing in front of a spider web and holding a broken guitar in her hands, from which blood flows. It was later replaced with a cover of Lita standing in front of a purple background with her guitar. The album cover showed that Ford had adopted a very heavy metal-inspired image, an image that she would maintain for most of the next decade. ...more
