The debut solo studio album by English progressive rock singer Peter Gabriel and the first of four albums with the same name. Released on February 25, 1977, it was produced by Bob Ezrin. Gabriel and Ezrin gathered musicians, including guitarist Robert Fripp and his future King Crimson bandmate Tony Levin on bass. After the release of the album, Gabriel began touring with a group of seven people under his own name. The album reached # 7 in the UK and # 38 in the US. He made a bet with Lennon that the song would be able to take first place in the American hit parade (which was previously not possible for any one single solo Lennon). If this would have happened, Lennon was required to attend the Elton John concert. He had to fulfill his promise, because, "Whatever Gets You thru the Night" actually managed to climb to the top of the chart. The song "Beef Jerky" is the only instrumental on solo albums Lennon.
