WAITS, TOM-SWORDFISHTROMBONE-1983-THE FIRST PRESS OF GERMANY-ISLAND-205774 A rare German original of the eighth album from the master of tavern blues. Swordfishtrombones is the eighth studio album by singer-songwriter Tom Waits, released in 1983 on Island Records. It was the first album that Waits released himself. Stylistically different from his previous albums, Swordfishtrombones moves away from traditional piano songwriting towards unusual instrumentation and a somewhat more abstract and experimental rock approach. The cover is a photo of Michael A. Russavin, in which Waits is depicted with actors Angelo Rossitto and Lee Colima. The album reached number 164 on the Billboard Pop Albums and 200 Albums charts. It was ranked 2nd among the "Albums of the Year" for 1983 by NME In 1989, Spin named Swordfishtrombones the second greatest album of all time. In 2006, Company Q placed the album at number 36 on their list of "The 40 Best Albums of the 80s." Pitchfork listed Swordfishtrombones as the 11th best album of the 1980s. The album was originally planned to be released in 1990, after 18 concerts Eric in the beginning of the year, but the musician was dissatisfied with the recorded material and the gate 24 Nights was delayed. In Australia, the album was called "The Band Played Boogie". The album includes, in particular, covers of songs by The Kinks and Cream, and it is equally divided by original compositions. The style continues the style of their two previous albums, with heavy rock and blues songs arranged on jazz instruments.
