Songs of Faith and Devotion is the eighth studio album by the British electronic band Depeche Mode. The album was released on March 22, 1993 on the Mute Records label, and a day later in the United States on the Sire and Reprise Records labels. The album contains a darker and darker sound than its predecessor Violator, largely influenced by the alternative and grunge scene in the US. Songs of Faith and Devotion reached high positions in most country charts and also became the first Depeche Mode album to debut on the chart in both the UK and the US. In support of the album, Depeche Mode embarked on a tour called the Devotional Tour, which lasted 14 months, which is the longest, in terms of duration, tour for the band at that time.
