Produced by Flood, Brian Inoi and The Edge, it was released on July 5, 1993 on Island Records. Zooropa received generally positive reviews from critics. Despite the fact that none of his three singles—"Numb", "Lemon" and "Stay (Far, so Close!)"—was a consistent hit in different regions, the record sold well after release, entering the top ten out of 26 countries. However, the duration of the album's recording and sales over the entire lifetime of 7 million copies were less than that of Achtung Baby. A tape recorder of the Studer brand at the 38th speed and a Basf LR-56 film were used. It was adapted from the play "Porgy" by Dorothy Hayward and Dubose Hayward, which is itself an adaptation of the 1925 novel of the same name by Dubose Hayward. Porgy and Bess was first performed in Boston on September 30, 1935, before moving to Broadway in New York.[1] It featured a cast of classically trained African-American singers—a bold artistic choice at the time. After an initially unpopular public reception, the 1976 production of the Houston Grand Opera brought her new popularity, and she is now one of the most famous and frequently performed operas. In 1976, Ray Charles and Cleo Lane recorded an album of excerpts for RCA Victor, in which the two of them performed several roles. The album was arranged and conducted by Frank De Vol. It featured Joe Sample's organ, Harry Edison's trumpet, and guitar work by Joe Pass and Lee Ritenour.
