Concerto for Group and Orchestra (translated from English — "Concert for Group and Orchestra") is a live album by the British rock band Deep Purple, recorded together with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. One of the first attempts to harmoniously combine classical music and rock music in one piece. It was released in the USA in December 1969, and in the UK in January 1970. By the time the second line-up of Deep Purple was formed, there was a confrontation in the band between the art-rock ambitions of John Lord and the hard-rock ambitions of Richie Blackmore. Lord considered the possibility of creating a work that would combine the features of classical and rock music. Deep Purple manager Tony Edwards decides to go all-in and reserves the Albert Hall for September 24, leaving John Lord about six months to write the score. Richie Blackmore was later terribly jealous of Lord that such an idea did not come to him
