Like the previous Grand Funk Railroad albums, it was recorded at the Cleveland Recording Company and is the last album produced by Terry Knight. The name is a play on the motto of the United States of America, E pluribus unum, and in Latin means "Of many, Funk". The original exhaust cap (designed by Ernie Cefalu) was completely round and covered with a silver film resembling a large coin. The back cover of this album included a cast image of Shea Stadium.
