Released on August 12, 1991 by Elektra Records, it is commonly referred to as the Black Album due to its packaging design. His recording took place in a one-on-one studio in Los Angeles for eight months, during which Metallica often clashed with its new producer Bob Rock. The album marked a change in the band's music from the thrash metal style of their previous four albums to a slower, heavier and more refined sound. Metallica performed Metallica in full during the 2012 Black Albums European Tour. In 2020, the album was ranked 235th in Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest Albums of all time. In December 2019, Metallica became the fourth release in American history to reach the 550-week milestone on the Billboard 200 chart. Until 1991, it existed only as a tape album, distributed by copying. Included in the book by Alexander Kushnir "100 magnetoalbums of Soviet rock" The recording was made on June 7-10, 1981. The sound engineer was Alexander "Artem" Arutyunov. The album was mixed on the spot.  The songs "In life, like in a dark thicket", "Who's to blame?" and "I used to wander alone" were first recorded in 1979 on the first album. A total of 9 songs were recorded. After Alice Cooper returned to the big stage in 1986 (since 1983, the musician has been undergoing treatment for alcoholism), and the release of the relatively successful albums Constrictor and Raise Your Fist and Yell, Alice Cooper decided to consolidate success. To do this, he, firstly, did not renew his contract with MCA and signed a contract with the record company Epic, and secondly, invited the famous musician and producer Desmond Child, who was widely known for his work with Kiss, Bon Jovi and Bonnie Tyler. Desmond Child became the producer and co-writer of the album.
