The idea of Freddie Mercury involving a symphony orchestra was not realized due to lack of time, and as a result, the album was partially arranged with synthesizers and a drum machine. Unusual Heat suffered a commercial failure, reaching only number 117 on the Billboard chart due to a sharp drop in sales compared to all previous albums, each of which reached the Top 20 and became at least platinum.
