In the USA, Elton John was certified gold in February 1971 by the RIAA. In the same year, he was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category "Album of the Year". In 2003, the album was ranked 468th on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All time. On November 27, 2012, it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame as an album marked as having "qualitative or historical significance".
