The album is divided into two separate parts; the first part of the album uses electric instruments, and on the first side of the original vinyl disc, Dylan is accompanied by an electro-rock and roll band. The second part mainly features acoustic songs. The album omits the protest music from Dylan's previous recordings in favor of more surreal, complex lyrics..
