The Allmusic website gave the album 4 stars, stating: "Gerry Mulligan's 1959 Studio date with Johnny Hodges is one of the most enjoyable sessions of his meetings with various saxophonists for Verve ... Throughout the performance, the two saxophonists are perfectly combined with each other and complement each other. effort, even though it was their only opportunity to record together in the Studio."
