Laid Back is a Danish disco-pop band formed in 1979, known for the hits " Sunshine Reggae "(1982) and" White Horse " (1983). For several years there was no news about Laid Back until in 1989 they again attracted attention with their new single "Bakerman" (featuring Danish singer Hannah Boel), which became a hit in most European countries (including number 9 in Germany) and achieved less success in the UK, where the song rose to number 44 in the charts (1990).

The album was released in August 1982. Rough Diamonds, like its predecessor, Desolation Angels, was recorded at Ridge Farm studios in Surrey, England, in March and April 1982, and engineered by max Norman (known for his work with Ozzy Osbourne). It was the last album by the original Bad Company line-up and the most recent Studio album to feature Paul Rogers. The album's debut track, "Electricland", written by Rogers, became the album's biggest hit. The track "Painted face" Rogers on the air rock stations spun day and night. The album included both the hit single "No Matter What "and the song" Without You", which was to become one of the most successful tracks of the rock era. No Dice reached number 28 on the Billboard Hot 200 chart.
