"Walls And Bridges" was recorded during the long absences of Lennon and Yoko Ono. The song "Whatever Gets You thru the Night" was attended by Elton John. He made a bet with Lennon that the song would be able to take first place in the American hit parade (which was previously not possible for any one single solo Lennon). If this would have happened, Lennon was required to attend the Elton John concert.
