A 1957 studio album by American jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald, accompanied by Duke Ellington and his orchestra, dedicated to Ellington's songs. Part of the Fitzgerald Songbook series, this is the only one where the composer also appears as a performer, and the first time Fitzgerald recorded with Ellington. It is also the entry in the Songbook series that gave her the most opportunities to demonstrate her skill in singing scat. Most of the third disc is dedicated to two original compositions by Billy Strayhorn, inspired by the life, character and artistry of Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald's recording on this album earned her the Grammy Award for Best Individual Jazz Performance at the 1st Annual Grammy Awards. The album was released in two volumes: In the first volume was Fitzgerald with the Ellington Orchestra, in the second-Fitzgerald with a small group. This album marked the beginning of a fruitful creative relationship between Fitzgerald and Ellington. This confirmed the singer's potential, reaching the top of the album chart in France. In France, Scène de vie climbed to number 2 on May 10, 1990, and then reached the top of the album chart and stayed there for ten weeks. It spent 38 weeks in the top ten and 78 weeks in the top 50.[3] It became a diamond disc eight years after its release, just as Mademoiselle Chante did... before him. In Switzerland, the album entered the charts on May 6, 1990 at number 17 and reached a peak position of 15.
