It was originally released by Mercury Records in the United States on November 4, 1970 and in the United Kingdom on April 10, 1971. The album was produced by Tony Visconti and recorded at Trident and Advision Studios in London in April and May 1970. The album was initially a commercial failure. Pegg writes that by the end of June 1971, only 1,395 copies had been sold in the United States..
