E Pluribus Funk is the fifth studio album by American rock band Grand Funk Railroad. The album was released on November 15, 1971 by Capitol Records. Like the previous Grand Funk Railroad albums, it was recorded at the Cleveland Recording Company and is the last album produced by Terry Knight. The name is a play on the motto of the United States of America, E pluribus unum, and in Latin means "Of many, Funk". The original exhaust cap (designed by Ernie Cefalu) was completely round and covered with a silver film resembling a large coin. The back cover of this album included a cast image of Shea Stadium. The reviewer of Afisha Daily in a retrospective review gave the album a similar assessment. In 2017, the album Sign "☮" the Times was inducted into the Grammy Award Hall of Fame. The album reached number six on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) four months after its release. It also entered the top 10 in Austria, France, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden and the UK and took first place in Switzerland.
