After Alice Cooper returned to the big stage in 1986 (since 1983, the musician has been undergoing treatment for alcoholism), and the release of the relatively successful albums Constrictor and Raise Your Fist and Yell, Alice Cooper decided to consolidate success. To do this, he, firstly, did not renew his contract with MCA and signed a contract with the record company Epic, and secondly, invited the famous musician and producer Desmond Child, who was widely known for his work with Kiss, Bon Jovi and Bonnie Tyler. Desmond Child became the producer and co-writer of the album. In addition, Alice Cooper invited such famous musicians as Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora and Steven Tyler to work (as well as to work with the previous album). The result was the album Trash, the most successfully sold album by Alice Cooper in his entire career. The album reached peak sales in the United States and was awarded platinum status by the RIAA for a circulation of over 1,000,000 copies in February 1990. With various covers and track listings, it was released on March 28, 1966 on London Records in the US and on November 4, 1966 on Decca Records in the UK. The American edition focused on songs from 1964 and 1965 with two new tunes: the recent "19th Nervous Breakdown" and the re-recorded "Time Is on My Side" with a guitar intro. The British version covered a longer period, starting with the band's first A-side single in 1963, "Come On", and ending with several songs from 1966, including the recent hit "Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow?"
