Even though it was a huge standard for any country, the band's sales have certainly plummeted since the release of 4 in 1981. This was the last album to feature the main line-up of the 80s-Gramm, Jones, Wills and Elliot.

Cucumber Castle is the only Bee Gees album recorded without Robin Gibb. The singer left the band at that time for a solo career and did not take part in the work on the record. His voice can be heard in several songs, but he is not even mentioned in the credits. Instead, some vocal parts are performed by the British soul singer P. P. Arnold. The album was accompanied by the release of two singles. First of all, this is "Don't Forget to Remember", which took second place in the UK chart in August, as well as "I.O.I.O.".
