Cheap Thrills is the second studio album by Big Brother and the Holding Company, released in August 1968. "Cheap Thrills" achieved great success: by October, it reached number one on the Billboard chart and turned out to be the best-selling album of 1968, with a circulation of just under a million copies. The song Piece of My Heart became a hit, which was subsequently performed by many other musicians, and the performance of Summertime from the opera Porgy and Bess turned into one of the most memorable and frequently used recordings by Janis Joplin. The album cover was created by the famous illustrator Robert Crumb. The name "Cheap Thrills" can be translated into Russian as "cheap passions", "low-grade fun". ...more

The album was released in the USA on June 7, 1976 by Capitol Records (catalog number SKBO 11537), in the UK on June 10, 1976 by Parlophone (catalog number PCSP 719); at that time, some media suggested that the album was released on the twentieth anniversary of the first meeting of John Lennon and Paul McCartney. If this was indeed the intention, then EMI made a mistake in their calculations, since in reality these two first met in July 1957. The album's title, Rock ’n’ Roll Music, is most likely taken from a Chuck Berry song, a version of which performed by The Beatles was included on the second side of the album. The album mainly consists of cover versions of songs written by such prominent rock and roll authors and performers of the 1950s as Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Carl Perkins and Larry Williams, as well as notable original songs by the Lennon-McCartney duo, such as "Drive My Car", "Revolution", "Back in the U.S.S.R." and "Get Back".
