The Wall is the eleventh studio album by the British progressive rock band Pink Floyd. It was released on November 30, 1979 on two discs. This is the last release of the band recorded in a classic line-up: David Gilmour (guitar), Roger Waters (bass), Nick Mason (drums) and Richard Wright (keyboards). The Wall was one of the most commercially successful albums of 1980, reaching the top of several charts, including Billboard; by 1999, over 23 million copies had been sold in the United States, making The Wall one of the three best-selling albums in the United States. Rolling Stone magazine placed this record at 87th place in its list of "The 500 greatest albums of all time".

It was the first album entirely written and produced by the band members. Previously, they relied on the material of the songwriting team of Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman. The album was released by RCA Records in Europe and Australia and by Capitol Records in the United States, Canada and Japan. The album completed the band's transition to the hard rock style, which has always been the hallmark of their self-composed B-sides. Give Us a Wink reached 3rd place in Sweden, 9th in Germany and entered the Top 20 in Norway and Australia. The album failed to chart in Sweet's home country, the UK. The European album contains two singles, "Action" and "The Lies in Your Eyes", which were recorded and released before the rest of the album was released. "Action" hit the top 10 in 1975 in many European countries, but stopped at number 15 in the UK singles chart.
