Released on January 16, 1968, the album features a thunderous bluesy sound that would later become known as heavy metal. Due to commercial success and critical acclaim, Vincebus Eruptum reached number 11 on the Billboard 200 album chart and secured the 14th line of the cover version of Eddie Cochran's song "Summertime Blues". The title track became a gold record and a No. 1 hit on the Billboard disco chart in the United States.
