COLTRANE, JOHN / SHEPP, ARCHIE -NEW THING AT NEWPORT-1965-FIRST PRESS (STEREO) USA- IMPULSE-AS-94-A very rare American original of the cult album . A 1965 live album consisting of two separate sets from that year's Newport Jazz Festival, composed by tenor saxophonists John Coltrane and Archie Shepp. It was recorded four days after Coltrane's Ascension album recording session, at which Shapp appeared, and is one of several albums documenting the final stages of Coltrane's "classic quartet", which would begin to break up by the end of that year with the departure of McCoy Tyner. Reviewer Tim Niland wrote that both of Coltrane's performances are "explosive in their intensity" and "One Down, One Up" is "almost boiling at times." He stated: "Despite the audacity of the music, there are enough melodic hints in it, and the musicians are so obviously sincere in their desire to explore the world that the audience gives them great support." Nayland concluded: "Although the music on this CD must have come as something of a shock to those who were unprepared for it, listening to it in a historical context shows that this is a great example of the rapidly developing state of jazz in the mid-1960s by two of its most famous performers." ...more

The album was released on September 23, 1991 on Epic Records and spawned hits such as the title track "Prisoners in Paradise" and "I'll Cry for You". The album did not chart in the US, which is unusual for a major label releasing two recent (multi) platinum albums. DAVE BRUBECK-WE'RE ALL TOGETHER AGAIN FOR THE FIRST TIME-1973-FIRST PRESS USA-ATLANTIC-SD1641. A rare American original of the iconic album.  A 1973 live album by Dave Brubeck and his quintet, recorded in various places in Europe. The album reached number 20 on the Billboard Top Jazz Charts. "Truth", "Unfinished Woman" and "Take Five" were recorded at the Berlin Philharmonic, "Koto Song" was recorded at the Olympia in Paris, and "Rotterdam Blues" and "Sweet Georgia Brown" were recorded at the De Doelen Concert Hall in Rotterdam. The album was reviewed by Scott Yanow of Allmusic, who wrote that "For this very logical record, the altruist Paul Desmond . . .. turns the band into a quintet, and his interaction with Mulligan is consistently delightful. ...In addition, Desmond is featured in the "Koto Song", and for an encore Brubeck performs the lighthearted, albeit brief "Sweet Georgia Brown".". ...more

A rare British original pop diva of the 60s.  This is the first of two studio albums related to Barbra Streisand's Emmy Award-winning debut on CBS-TV. A special edition of "My Name is Barbra", which aired on April 28, 1965 and was choreographed by Joe Layton. The album was certified gold and reached number 2 on the US charts. Streisand's brother Sheldon took the cover photo when she was five years old. A rare original of the cult group. High Civilization is the nineteenth studio album by the British pop group the Bee Gees, released on March 25, 1991 in the United Kingdom, and on May 14, 1991 in the United States-their last album recorded for Warner Bros. Records, after a four-year contract (they will return to WB through a subsidiary company Reprise Records in 2006: having obtained the rights to their previously released material, they will reissue each album through Reprise). Perhaps in response to the firm resistance of American radio to the two previous albums-E. S. P. (1987) and One (1989), which proved well in other countries, the American Warner Bros. gave this advertisement one less share and did not release remixes. They recorded this album, and their next album size is not everything with engineer Femi Gia.  In the US, the album was only available on CD and cassette, but the LP version was released in limited quantities in some countries. While it failed to chart in the US, it reached No. 6 in Switzerland, No. 2 in Germany (achieving platinum certification in both countries), No. 24 in the UK. ...more
