It was originally released in Scandinavia on November 17, 1975 and in other parts of the world in 1976, notably in the UK on April 10 and September 18 in the USA and Canada. The release of Greatest Hits coincided with the beginning of ABBA's huge popularity in the UK in the second half of the 1970s, becoming the first of eight consecutive number one albums for the band. It spent eleven consecutive weeks at the top of the UK Albums Chart and became the best-selling album of 1976 and the second best-selling album of the 1970s. As of July 2016, it is the 46th best-selling album of all time in the UK, with sales of over 2.6 million Greatest Hits was released in the USA and Canada in September 1976, but record sales peaked only in April 1977, when the song "Dancing Queen" took first place in both countries. "Dancing Queen" was not included in the Greatest Hits, but it was the lead single from the new studio album Arrival, and it aroused interest in the ABBA back catalog. Greatest Hits has been certified platinum in the USA and five times platinum in Canada.

Nevertheless, the album was finished and well received by the public. A Night at the Opera is the fourth studio album by the rock band Queen, released on December 2, 1975. The record was a great success: its sales reached three million, and in the UK charts it held the first position for four inconsistent weeks. The title of the album — "Night at the Opera" — as well as the subsequent one, is taken from the repertoire of American comedians of the 1930s by the Marx brothers, namely from the film of the same name. At each Queen concert, several songs from A Night at the Opera were necessarily performed (while "Love of My Life" was never performed in the album version). It is considered that the song "Death on Two Legs" is dedicated to the former producer of the band. "Bohemian Rhapsody" brought the band a resounding success and in 2000 was recognized in Britain as the "song of the millennium".
