Hogwash's sound was classified as progressive rock, and it contains elements of psychedelic music, space rock and blues. Tony McPhee was one of the first rock guitarists to experiment with guitar-driven synthesis. This made it possible to double the sound of the guitar. This is the first CD recorded by the band after Roger Waters left Pink Floyd.Work on the album A Momentary Lapse of Reason lasted from November 1986 to July 1987 in seven studios in London and Los Angeles. The main part of the material for the new album was written by David Gilmour. In addition, Gilmore took over the duties of producer. Bob Ezrin was invited to record the album as a co-producer. The producer was Terry Knight and the sound engineer was Ken Hamann. It became the band's first album to be awarded gold status by the RIAA.
