Released on Epic Records on August 31, 1987, the album was produced by Jackson and Quincy Jones-Bad was their third and final collaboration. The songs on the album are composed in the genres of funk, rhythm and Blues, gospel, pop rock, hard rock, swing and Blues. Jackson wrote nine of the eleven songs on the final track list.
