A rare Japanese edition of the iconic album. Deep Purple in Rock is the fourth studio album by the British rock band Deep Purple, released on June 5, 1970 on Harvest Records. This is the first studio album recorded with the classic band line-up called "Mark II" (a little earlier, this line-up recorded the live album Concerto for Group and Orchestra). Since this album, the band's style has changed dramatically. Deep Purple started playing hard rock almost simultaneously with such bands as Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heep, and are considered one of the founders and classics of this genre. Work on Abbey Road took place from February to August 1969 and became the last joint project of all four members of the ensemble (the last numbered album of the group Let It Be, released in 1970, was mostly recorded in January 1969). The record was produced by George Martin, who had worked with the band since 1962. Abbey Road sold four million copies in the first two months. In the UK, the album debuted at the top of the national chart, where it remained for 11 weeks, after which it was replaced by The Rolling Stones' Let It Bleed for one week. The record was a great success: its sales reached three million, and in the UK charts it held the first position for four inconsistent weeks. The title of the album — "A Night at the Opera" — as well as the subsequent one, is taken from the repertoire of American comedians of the 1930s by the Marx brothers, namely from the film of the same name. At each Queen concert, several songs from A Night at the Opera were necessarily performed (while "Love of My Life" was never performed in the album version). It is considered that the song "Death on Two Legs" is dedicated to the former producer of the band.
