WARHORSE-WARHORSE-1970-THE FIRST UK PRESS-VERTIGO SWIRL-6360015. A mega rare original of the first album by the iconic British prog band. Warhorse is a band formed by ex-Deep Purple bassist Nick Simper. The band existed from 1970 to 1974 (partial reunions in 1985, 2005). The band's sound was close to the style of the early Deep Purple. After his forced departure from Deep Purple, Nick Simper started organizing a new band. Initially, he planned to involve well-known musicians Albert Lee and Mick Underwood in the collaboration, but this alliance did not take place. The new band was based on guitarist Jed Pack and drummer Mac Poole, musicians who played with Simper in the accompanying Marsha Hunt line—up. The new band also includes vocalist Ashley Holt and keyboardist Rick Wakeman. The band received the name "Iron Horse", which was soon changed to "Warhorse". Wakeman proved to be an unreliable partner and left the band in April, before the band had even made any recordings. Instead, keyboardist Frank Wilson was recruited into the band, with whom the debut demo "Miss Jane" was made. In 1970, the band signed a contract with Phonograms, a division of Vertigo Records, and began recording their debut album. The Warhorse album was released in November 1970. The song "St. Louis" (a cover of "Easybeats") was released as a single and was most popular with the public. The Raven is the fourth studio album by the English rock band The Stranglers, released on September 21, 1979 on the United Artists label. The Raven was released in September 1979. It reached number 4 on the UK Albums Chart, staying there for eight weeks. "Duchess" was the first and most successful single from the album, released on August 10, 1979, and peaked at number 14 on the UK Singles Chart. "Nuclear Device (The Wizard of Aus)" was the second single released; it reached number 36 on the same chart. In November, a four-track mini album "Don't Bring Harry" was released. In addition to the title song and the live version of "In the Shadows", the album also includes "Wired" (from Cornwell and Robert Williams' upcoming album Nosferatu) and a live version of "Crabs" (from Burnell's solo album Euroman Cometh).. ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER- CATS (2LP'S)-1981-THE FIRST UK PRESS-POLYDOR-CATX001. A very rare British original of a cult rock opera. "Cats" is a musical musical with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. It is based on T. S. Eliot's 1939 collection of poems, The Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. The musical tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellykles and the night they make the "Jellykles choice", deciding which cat will rise to the Heaviside layer and return to a new life. As of 2024, "Cats" remains the fifth longest-running Broadway show and the eighth longest-running show in the West End. Lloyd Webber began writing music based on Eliot's poems in 1977, and in 1980 these compositions were first presented as a song cycle. Then producer Cameron Mackintosh invited director Trevor Nunn and choreographer Gillian Lynn to turn the songs into a full-fledged musical. "Cats" received positive reviews at the New London Theatre in the West End in 1981, followed by mixed reviews at the Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway in 1982.
