QUEEN-A NIGHT AT THE OPERA-1975-THE FIRST UK PRESS-EMI - EMTC103.Matrices A-3/B-3. A rare British original. A Night at the Opera is the fourth studio album by the rock band Queen, released on December 2, 1975. The record was a great success: its sales reached three million, and it held the top position in the UK charts for four inconsistent weeks. The title of the album — "Night at the Opera" — as well as the subsequent one, is taken from the repertoire of American comedians of the 1930s by the Marx brothers, namely from the film of the same name. At each Queen concert, several songs from A Night at the Opera were necessarily performed (while "Love of My Life" was never performed in the album version). It is generally believed that the song "Death on Two Legs" is dedicated to the former producer of the band. "Bohemian Rhapsody" brought the band a resounding success and in 2000 was recognized in Britain as the "song of the millennium". The final album, "God Save the Queen", is the British national anthem arranged by Brian May; it was this composition that invariably completed each concert of the band. The album was ranked number 230 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time in 2003, and number 128 on the 2020 list. ...more

Lot 38.JOHN, ELTON - CARIBOU-1974-FIRST PRESS UK-DJM-NMINT/NMINT

JOHN, ELTON-CARIBOU-1974-FIRST PRESS UK-DJM-DJLPH439. A rare British original of the master of the British stage. Caribou is the eighth studio album by Elton John, released in 1974. The album peaked at number four in the US and number three in the UK. The album contains the singles "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me", which peaked at number 16 on the UK Singles chart and number two in the US, and "The Bitch Is Back", which peaked at number 15 in the UK and number four in the US. Both singles reached number one in Canada on the national RPM 100 Top Singles Chart, as did the album itself. The album was met with lukewarm reviews on its release, and legacy reviews do not consider this record one of John's best works from his peak period of the early 1970s. However, the album was a commercial success and was certified double platinum in the US, as well as being certified gold in the UK. The album was nominated for a Grammy Award for Album of the Year at the 17th Annual Grammy Awards.  ...more

QUINCY JONES- I HEARD THAT!! (2LP'S)-1976-FIRST PRESS UK-AM-AMLM63705. A rare British original by an iconic musician. Quincy Jones - I Heard That! . The album gives Quincy an unusual format in '76 - on the first record, the listener gets new material, on the second, a collection of the best things during his stay on the A./M. label. The idea is, frankly, questionable - for obvious reasons, the first record can't be compared to the second, the opening straightforward dance I Heard That is no match for the opening perhaps iconic arrangement of Summer In The City from the album 73rd You've Got It Bad Girl. Nevertheless, after many years, the doppelganger listens well as just a selection of the best from Quincy. ...more
