QUEEN-A NIGHT AT THE OPERA-1975-THE FIRST UK PRESS-EMI - EMTC103.Matrices A-3/B-3. A rare British original. A Night at the Opera is the fourth studio album by the rock band Queen, released on December 2, 1975. The record was a great success: its sales reached three million, and it held the top position in the UK charts for four inconsistent weeks. The title of the album — "Night at the Opera" — as well as the subsequent one, is taken from the repertoire of American comedians of the 1930s by the Marx brothers, namely from the film of the same name. At each Queen concert, several songs from A Night at the Opera were necessarily performed (while "Love of My Life" was never performed in the album version). It is generally believed that the song "Death on Two Legs" is dedicated to the former producer of the band. "Bohemian Rhapsody" brought the band a resounding success and in 2000 was recognized in Britain as the "song of the millennium". The final album, "God Save the Queen", is the British national anthem arranged by Brian May; it was this composition that invariably completed each concert of the band. DEEP PURPLE-SHADES OF DEEP PURPLE-1968-FIRST PRESS USA-TETRAGRAMMATON- T-102, Shades of Deep Purple is the debut album by the English rock band Deep Purple, released in July 1968 on the Tetragrammaton label in the USA and in September 1968 on the Parlophone label in the UK. The band, originally called Roundabout, was the idea of former Seahawks drummer Chris Curtis, who invited Jon Lord and Richie Blackmore to join the band before leaving the project. In March 1968, the band was joined by vocalist and frontman Rod Evans, as well as bassist Nick Simper and drummer Ian Pace. After two months of rehearsals, Shades of Deep Purple was recorded in just three days in May 1968. It contains four original songs and four cover versions, carefully arranged with classical interludes added to make the sound more psychedelic. Stylistically, the music is close to psychedelic rock and progressive rock, two genres whose audience was constantly growing in the late 1960s. The album was not widely recognized in the UK, where very few copies were sold and it did not chart. On the other hand, he was a success in the US, and the single "Hush", an energetic rock track written by Joe South and originally recorded by Billy Joe Royal, became very popular at the time and reached number 4 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. ...more
