The album was recorded in the spring and summer of 1983 at Garden studios in London, and the mixing process took place at Hansa Mischraum studios in Berlin. Construction Time Again is the band's first album to feature new Depeche Mode member Alan Wilder. In Construction Time Again, there were significant changes in the style of Depeche Mode. The album has a pronounced industrial sound, which is also found in the next two Studio albums Some Great Reward and Black Celebration. Construction Time Again also features a deeper lyrical content of the songs. Unlike the band's previous records, this album's compositions reflect social and political themes.
