A rare German original of a cult album, one of the icons in rock music. On the album Jesus Christ Superstar, released in 1970, the title role was performed by Deep Purple vocalist Ian Gillan. Other well-known artists took part in the recording: Murray Head, Mike D'Abo (ex-Manfred Mann), bluesman Victor Brox (Caiaphas), as well as Paul Raven (aka Gary Glitter) and Yvonne Elliman, who later became famous. The album Jesus Christ Superstar topped the Billboard 200 in 1971 and rose to No. 6 on the UK Singles Chart in January 1972. ATLANTIS-SAME-1972-FIRST PRESS GERMANY-VERTIGO-6360609. A rare original continuation of the cult prog group FRUMPY. Atlantis was formed at the end of the summer of 1972 by Inga Rumpf (vocals), Jean-Jacques Kravets (keyboards) and Karl-Heinz Schott (bass). These musicians previously played in the band Frumpy. The founding members also included guitarist Frank Dees and drummer Kurt Kress (formerly of the band Emergency). After several live performances in Germany, the first LP was released at Island Records Studio in London, which was widely recognized, especially in the United States, where Rumpf's bluesy vocals were appreciated. Diz and Kress left the band after recording. For a four-week tour of England with Procol Harum and Traffic, George Meyer joined Atlantis as guitarist and Udo Lindenberg joined Atlantis as drummer. After the tour, they were replaced by Dieter Bornschlegel (who had previously worked with the band Dreamtorte) and Ringo Funk (who had previously worked with Geronimo), with whom the second album It's Getting Better (1973) was recorded. ...more
