In the UK, the CD was released on March 28, 1994 on the EMI label, in the USA it was released on April 4 of the same year on Columbia Records. The music is mostly written by David Gilmore and Richard Wright, the lyrics are mainly devoted to the topic of communication. The album was recorded in several locations, including Pink Floyd-owned Britannia Row Studios and Astoria. The Division Bell reached the top of the charts in the UK and the United States, but critics reacted coolly to it. The album was released immediately after Pink Floyd's tour of the USA and Europe.
