Produced by songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, Procol's Ninth album was slightly different from the previous album, with a much brighter sound than Chris Thomas' more elaborate works. According to an interview with guitarist Mick Grabham, taken by Roland Clare for the 2009 reissue, Leiber and Stoller paid less attention to the producer sound, and more to the "structure of the songs".
