The band originally consisted of married couple Denis and Denise Lepage, who had a number one dance hit in the US in 1981 with the song "Your Love". Lime released their debut album Your Love in 1981. The title track became a gold record and a No. 1 hit on the Billboard disco chart in the United States. In 1982, Lime Lime II's second album was released with the support of the single "Babe We're Gonna Love Tonight", which reached No. 6 on the Billboard dance chart.

The concert took place in the presence of a 200,000-strong audience on July 21, 1990 at Potsdamer Platz, which was previously a no-man's land separating East and West Berlin.
